I've built a computer controlled 3 axis milling machine that has a range of motion of 31 inches in the X direction, 15 inches in the Y direction, and 7 inches vertically in the Z direction. I've written some software (for the Mac) that can be used to mill parts based on drawings and also pictures such as those taken from a digital camera. Here's the photo gallery...
